Dictation: Diagram View
Dictate your findings while viewing the body diagram. The AI formats your spoken words into structured report text in real time.
How to Dictate
In diagram view, the companion panel at the bottom of the screen has a microphone button. This is how you record your findings.
Select a section
Make sure the correct section is active in the companion panel (e.g., "External Examination"). Tap the section name to change it if needed.
Tap the microphone
Tap the large microphone button at the center of the companion bar. It will start glowing to indicate recording.
Speak naturally
Describe your findings in plain language. You don't need to say "period" or "comma"; the AI handles punctuation and formatting automatically.
Tap to stop
Tap the microphone button again to stop recording. The AI will process your dictation and stream the formatted text back to you.
Speak naturally: There's no need for special commands. Just describe what you see: "There is a 3-centimeter laceration on the left temporal region with irregular margins." The AI will format it to match your template style.
Switch Between Sections
As you move through different parts of the examination, switch the active section so the AI places your dictation in the correct part of the report.
Expand the companion panel
Swipe up on the companion bar to reveal the section picker.
Tap the desired section
Scroll through the section list and tap the section you want to dictate into (e.g., "Internal Examination," "Neuropathology," "Toxicology").
Continue dictating
Tap the microphone and dictate. Your input will be formatted according to the rules and style specific to the selected section.
Edit AI Output
After the AI formats your dictation, you can edit the text directly.
View the formatted text
After dictation, the formatted text appears in the companion panel. The text streams in word by word as the AI processes it.
Tap "Edit"
Tap the Edit button to open the text editor. You can directly modify the formatted text: fix a word, add details, or rearrange content.
Dictate corrections
Alternatively, you can dictate again into the same section. Tell the AI what to change: "Actually, change that to a 4-centimeter laceration" or "Add that the margins are clean and well-approximated."
Conversational editing: You can speak corrections naturally. The AI understands context from your previous dictation and will update the text accordingly rather than creating duplicate content.
Quick Actions
Quick action capsules appear above the microphone button, offering one-tap shortcuts relevant to your current section and dictation.
Common quick actions include:
- "No abnormalities": inserts standard negative findings text for the current section
- "Standard opening": adds the template's standard opening sentence
- "Review checklist": shows what items you haven't covered yet
- Section-specific prompts: suggestions based on what's typical for the active section
Coverage Tracking
As you dictate, Locarda tracks which items in the section's checklist have been covered. This helps ensure thorough and complete reports.
- Coverage bar: a visual progress indicator showing what percentage of the section's checklist items you've addressed
- Checklist view: expand to see individual items, colored green (covered) or gray (not yet addressed)
- Tags: keywords from the template that light up as you mention related findings
Tip: Before finishing a section, check the coverage bar. If it's not at 100%, review the checklist to see which items you may have missed.
Dictation Tips
- Speak in complete thoughts: the AI works best with full sentences or descriptions rather than isolated words
- Use standard anatomical terms: the AI recognizes medical terminology and will format it correctly
- Include measurements: state dimensions clearly: "3 by 2 by 1 centimeters"
- Specify laterality: say "left" or "right" for all findings
- Dictate multiple times: you can dictate into the same section as many times as you want; the AI accumulates and organizes the content
